United As One
Exactly
one year ago, a group of students began their senior year
in a band class with no band teacher, no money, no new instruments,
and very few participants. Added to these circumstances
was a motivational speaker serving as a substitute teacher
with no music experience, high racial tension on a campus
known for riots between blacks and Latinos, and local news
cameras emphasizing and broadcasting only the darkest of
campus problems. In the midst of these adverse circumstances
and situations, the substitute teacher and students were
able to come together to learn, grow, make beautiful music
and most of all, unify a school many had written off.
This story
has been chronicled in an inspirational documentary entitled
"United As One". "United As One" is
a thirty minute documentary that not only explains the story
of these kids and their teacher, but features a variety
of awesome stories and testimonials from each of these students
and their substitute teacher for one semester. For instance,
one student speaks on how participation in the band taught
him to respect his mother at home while another students
talks about how participating in the band inspired him to
go to college and one day receive a Master's Degree. Another
student discusses the feeling of stepping into the role
of a peer leader which made him responsible for teaching
his band mates all of the songs for the semester while another
student talks about the power of unity and the importance
of racial harmony. In addition to these tremendous stories,
you will hear awesome music played by the band and be left
inspired, motivated, and possibly in tears after watching
this inspirational video.
The
purpose of this inspirational film is to inspire, motivate,
and empower other students and art programs across the US
and to raise money for the music and arts program at Gardena
High School. Before you decide whether or not to buy this
